A North Carolina native, David Marks spent most of his formative years in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Gardner-Webb College in 1976 where he met his wife Debbie. They were married in August of that summer and moved to Raleigh, NC. David attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in 1979. They then moved to Aberdeen, NC and David began working as Minister of Education and Youth at the First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. David and Debbie have 2 children. Their daughter Ashley is married and lives in Oxford, OH with her husband, David and their son Douglas and his wife Jamie live in Raleigh, NC.
David felt lead into prison ministry and began in 1985 as the chaplain at Morrison Correctional Institution. He served as chaplain with the North Carolina Department of Correction for 17 years. As the Sandhills Baptist Association began to advance its plans to plant a new church start in Pinehurst, NC, he felt lead to become the church planter. He took on the new work in October of 2001 where he continues in the role of senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Pinehurst.
David enjoys a wide variety of outdoor hobbies consisting of hunting, hiking, backpacking and golf. He and Debbie enjoy section hiking the Appalachian Trail and have hiked the entire trail located in NC/TN.
